The idea began with my Uncle Hilde, an old-time New Hampshire Yankee who came of age during the Great Depression and could
squeeze a nickel until Jefferson screamed. He never threw away anything he thought he might have a use for somewhere down the
road. Often I heard him say “Don’t spend money where you don’t need to”.
After working 25 years in the wholesale lumber business, I felt sure that a business offering finished building materials
at a discount could actually compete with the “big box” stores. Capitalizing on the network of relationships I had developed
in my career with manufacturers, wholesalers, importers, sawmills, and retailers, our first store opened in June 2006 in
Tilton, New Hampshire. As the Tilton store grew and it became obvious that the formula worked, additional stores were opened
in Merrimack in May 2009 and Seabrook in January 2011.
So how is it that a retail building materials dealer has not only been successful but actually grown in a down economy?
First, we stick to our strengths. All the aesthetic materials on a house…hardwood flooring, decking, siding and trim are what
we know and what we sell.
Second, we maintain a low overhead. In addition to purchasing first quality products at a discount,
our business is strictly “cash and carry.” We don't offer installed sales or do deliveries, but we can refer customers to
professional contractors and delivery people. This allows Uncle Hilde’s to sell at prices that no other stores can compete with.
Third, we offer an unbeatable selection….over $1 Million in inventory in stock! And finally, we treat our customers the same way
we would like to be treated. We pride ourselves on being professional sales people who can educate our customers. I often get
