Composite Decking | Composite Exterior Decks
Composite decking is one of the newest innovations in
the decking world. The technically named "wood-plastic composite" or WPC, is comprised of
recycled plastic and wood by products. Composite decking is an amazing material capable of a variety
of mechanical feats that standard natural hardwood decking is simply incapable of in terms of placement,
formation, durability, and color fastness.
Composite decking, as a result of being a wood-plastic composite, can be bent,
formed, and moulded. As a result, composite decking opens up whole new dimensional possibilities for your
deck: Maybe you would like a figure eight, some wavy curved decking planks running the length of one side
of your house? All of this is possible with composite decking. In less extreme situations, the pliability
of composite decking can be useful when you have a unique spatial constrictions to work around.
In addition to its spatial versatility, composite decking features superior color
fastness when compared to natural wood decking. It also doesn't require staining or oiling, as it is manufactured
with their coloring already applied within the decking itself. Composite exterior decking is very resistant to rot.
With regard to durability, it can sometimes slightly deform in extremely hot weather. Luckily, when it comes to
composite decking, New Hampshire's temperate climate doesn't pose much of a threat. Composite decking is
also resistant to termites.
Cellular PVC is one of the the latest trends in outdoor decking. PVC decking stays cooler than other types of decking, is much easier to keep clean, is more resistant to fading and is as easy to work with as wood. At present, Uncle Hilde's stock three types of Cellular PVC decking:
- AZEK® Deck
- Cellek™ Decking
- WeatherReady® Decking
One of the greatest benefits of PVC decking is that it does not absorb water. Stains wipe right off, the boards will not rot or swell due to moisture and it does not invite bugs or mildew. Any mold that does appear due to local environmental conditions can be washed off easily. The surface of PVC decking is very hard and scratch resistant, most products have a nice embossed wood grain on at least one side and many are available pregrooved for a proprietary hidden fastener system. PVC decking also comes in a variety of fade-resistant colors and 1x4” or 5/4x6” sizes. Another benefit to the extrusion process is that all products come in consistent lengths of 12' 16' and 20'. Cellular PVC decking meets all residential building codes and will provide you with a beautiful deck around your pool, under your hot tub, or a great place to put your grill for many years to come.
